At HIR Wellness Center, we believe that healing occurs intergenerationally within a community. Although individual therapy is important, we extend our services beyond this traditional approach, using our Healing Pathways Model developed by our founder, Lea S. Denny, to address historical and individual trauma, adversity and the relentlessness of Persistence Toxic Systems & Environments (PTSE), phrase coined by our founder to call to action a new approach to understanding mental health issues within a collective context and therefore creating spaces for radical healing throughout one's community and family. This model is reflected through our individual and family therapy services, communal support groups, and C.A.M. Events. We use an interdisciplinary team, that is trained through a historical trauma- and social justice- informed approach to guide our work. Unique to our center is the ongoing use of Community-Based Participatory Research and Practice-Based Evidence to help identify, measure, and develop all of our services and programming. This practice allows us to honor our commitment that our organization and programming is community based and not community placed.
